There’s no wrong way to search the Design Store. For some people, the search begins with a specific project in mind. For others, the design inspires the project. However you search, these tips will help you find exactly what you’re looking for (even if you don’t quite know what that is yet).
Search methods
You can always peruse through the Design Store to look at the newest designs or shop the current deals, but if you know what you’re looking for, here are a few tools to help you find things more quickly.
By keyword
The most straightforward way to search is by typing a keyword or phrase into the search bar. Your results will contain any design that relates to your search terms. You can then refine your search using the filters on the results page.
By category
Perhaps you want to look at designs in a particular category. In that case, you can select from 1 of about 100 categories and view all the designs within that particular category. Similar to searching by keyword, you can refine these results using the filter menu.
By Artist
If you have a particular artist you like, you can view all of their designs by selecting their name from the list of artists, or you can click on their name from the modal view of any of their designs. You can also search “All Designs” and filter for the artist (or artists) that you like.
By design type
On the home page, you will find links to these design types: Fonts, 3D, and Patterns. You can also search “All Designs” and filter for the design type (or types) that you like.
Design types
You can always peruse through the Design Store to look at the newest designs or shop the current deals, but if you know what you’re looking for, here are a few tools to help you find things more quickly.
Regular cut
The most common type of design is a Regular Cut file. This is a flat design that can be cut from your chosen material. These can be single-layered or multilayered designs. With multilayered designs, you cut different parts of the design (perhaps in different colors of material) and assemble as needed.
Print & Cut
Print & Cut is a type of file that uses your personal printer to print designs that can then be cut out using your electronic cutting machine.
3D Crafts
3D files allow you to create a 3D object from two dimensional material (like paper or cardstock). 3D cut files may require some assembly depending on the complexity of the design.
Fonts
Font files can be used like other fonts on your computer—typically to type out words or phrases. Dingbat fonts replace the standard characters with simple images or phrases. While our fonts will work in most other software programs, they can be guaranteed to work only in Silhouette Studio®.
Printable Patterns
A printable pattern is not intended to be cut. Instead, it can be used to fill your favorite cuttable shapes with patterns to create customized Print & Cut images in Silhouette Studio®.
Sketch Designs
Sketch designs are intended to be used with Silhouette sketch pens. Replace the blade of the Silhouette with a sketch pen and watch your Silhouette draw designs instead of cutting them.
Rhinestone Designs
Rhinestone designs are intended to be used with Silhouette rhinestones. You would first cut the design out in the Silhouette brand of rhinestone template material to add rhinestones to your projects.
Other Files
Though uncommon, you may discover other design types within the Store. Notably, there are instructional PDFs and a growing number of files to be used with a 3D printer.
File types
The standard file type for Regular Cut, Print & Cut, Sketch, Rhinestone, and 3D cut files is the proprietary .studio file. This file type can be used in the Silhouette Studio® software. Most artists also offer an optional SVG version of these files that allows them to be used in other applications as well.
All other design types-including Fonts and Printable Patterns-are offered in a nonproprietary file type (such as .otf, .tff, and .pgn) and can be used either in Silhouette software or other compatible applications.
License types
All designs in the Silhouette Design Store are offered for personal use. Once you purchase a design, you can use it as often as you would like for noncommercial purposes.
Most of our artists offer an optional Commercial Use License for their designs. Commercial use is defined as using the digital design in any physical project, product, artwork, etc. that is intended for resale or commercial use. Under no circumstances are you allowed to resell or distribute the files associated with digital designs offered by Silhouette.

Subscriptions and credit boosts
Everyone downloads designs differently. For those who purchase more than a handful of designs, we offer some very appealing incentive programs in the form of Credit Boosts and Subscriptions.
Credit boosts
A Credit Boost is a great way to load up on Design Store credit and save money at the same time. The more you buy, the more you save—up to 40%! Boost credits never expire so you can use them whenever you’d like. You can even spend your credits during design sales to get even more value. Credit Boosts are ideal for the casual Design Store shopper, while Design Store subscriptions are geared toward those who download more frequently.
Subscriptions
Subscriptions start at just $4.99 per month and provide the greatest savings for those who download regularly. With each subscription, you'll get monthly credits automatically added to your account balance, which you can use to purchase any digital content within the Store. Our top subscription tier provides an incredible 88% savings! You can pay for your subscription monthly or upfront (an up-front payment will result in an additional savings of 5%).
Design deals
At any given time, there are hundreds of discounted designs in our Deals section.
Daily deals
The Daily Deals change every day and are priced at 30% off. Be sure to check them out on Thursdays as they’re 40% off that day.
Weekly Steals
A new batch of Weekly Steals is introduced every Sunday. These designs are 50% off and are always very popular.
Last-Chance Designs
Each Saturday we prepare to bid farewell to some of our more seasoned designs. We send them off in style at 75% off (or FREE if you have a Premium subscription or higher).

There are hundreds of opportunities throughout the year to find free designs. Here are the most common ways:
Free Design of the Week
Every Tuesday, we release a new Free Design of the Week. Come back every week so you don’t miss a single one.
Free Designs
On the “Free Designs” page you’ll find several designs that are permanently free. There is at least one of each design type so that you can try a variety of different projects.
Free With Purchase
Also on the “Free Designs” page, there is a selection of “Free with Purchase” designs. These are free with any qualifying design purchase. Just click on the thumbnail to see the requirement.
Promotional Offers
Throughout the year, there are certain promotions in which we will offer additional free designs. They are available only for a limited time, so check back often and sign up for our newsletter to be kept up to date.
Bundles
A bundle is a collection of related designs that we curate and offer at a significant discount. These are released on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. If you download a bundle on the day it’s released, you’ll save an additional 25%!
Promotional calendar
You’ll see Design Store promotions throughout the year. Sometimes, a specific category will be on sale. Other times, a particular artist’s designs will be discounted. It’s a good idea to sign up to receive promotional updates through our newsletter.
